KSP: Clay County man arrested after shooting girlfriend

CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police arrested a Clay County man accused of shooting his girlfriend during a domestic dispute.

It happened on Skull Branch Road, just after 12:30 a.m. Troopers say Samuel Cornett, 52, shot his girlfriend, Alisha Tye, 35. They are both from Manchester. During the dispute, Tye ran to a neighbor’s home, trying to get away from Cornett. Troopers say Cornett forced his way inside, and fired several shots, striking Tye. They say Tye was flown to the University of Kentucky, where she is listed in critical condition.

Cornett was located and arrested a short time later. He is facing five counts of wanton endangerment, 1st degree, attempted murder (domestic violence), assault 1st degree, and burglary 1st degree.
