Adult Skin Problems, Acne and Rosacea

In this weeks Weekly Wellness Report, I would like to address a subject I receive a lot of questions about: adult acne. Why do mature adults get pimples, and what can they do to get rid of them?
Adult acne is on the rise. It is estimated that up to 50 percent of women and 25 percent of men suffer from it. Interestingly, the cause for acne is the same for adults as it is for teenagers: hormones. For background, remember that hormones are merely messengers; they carry information and instructions to every cell in your body. But they are messengers that are not suppose to hang around.
The cycle of hormones is:
The body makes them
The body uses them
Then the body must get rid of them through detoxification.
If hormones linger they will cause inflammation and you will get symptoms. When a detoxification imbalance allows these potent messenger hormones to remain in the cells too long, a large number of sebaceous cells can burst and release sebum, a waxy or oily substance. In small amounts, sebum protects the skin. In large amounts, however, it blocks pores, producing infections (pimples).
Stress and acne
Chronic or acute stress can interrupt the process of making good hormones from good fats. When this happens, the energy from hormones must be redirected to solve the crisis. As part of this crisis response, hormones called androgens can be converted into inactive, inflammatory forms that are difficult to detoxify. For instance, testosterone in women and men may be converted to DHT, a known cause of adult acne and hair loss. DHT lingers in skin cells and causes them to become inflamed.
You can help correct adult acne by:
Eliminating bad fats from your diet and concentrating on good fats, like Omega-3 and evening primrose oil. Good fats make good hormones.

What about rosacea?
